Question: Original RPG Art for Sale

I'm pretty excited about Stefan Poag's Etsy shop for his original artwork. I'm going to peruse his shop and pick up a couple of pieces. As an artist myself, I LOVE having original art by other artists. I have a couple of RPG pieces by Kent Burles and a few others. I find myself wondering if others would be interested in purchasing some of my originals that were used in RPG products? If so, does it matter if they are matted or just the original on the paper? I do have an Etsy account but nothing uploaded (since I tend to be more of a buyer than a seller).

I'd be interested in hearing if 1) You like to purchase original RPG art 2) How you like the presentation 3) If I should bother tyring to sell some of my originals. My inent is not to make tons of cash, rather, I'd like to see some of these pieces go to folks who would appreciate them rather than have them sitting in my archives. Let me know what you think!

  1. Yes, please, do make them available! I know little about the technical aspects of matting etc. though, so can't really offer a suggestion there.

  2. Thanks for the bump!
Penury makes me a seller rather than a buyer (although I'd do a swap!... hint hint!). Matted pictures are always nice, but I suppose they should be in a standard size so the user can just pop them into a ready made frame.

  3. @Carter - I'm researching some stuff on matting, etc. I've just registered for an Etsy account so expect to see something fairly soon. If it works out, I'll probably do some screenprints as well (like a sleestak t-shirt, hehe).

@limpey - No problem! I'd love to do a trade! I've got a ton of stuff sitting in a portfolio. email me and we can work out a trade ;). Man, I REALLY need to update my online portfolio. Add that to my to do list...

  4. Dude, how can you even think of selling your own original art?!

  5. For me, I've found it's good not to build up attachments to my work. I actually am happier knowing that folks out there enjoy my work and would like to have it for themselves to display or whatever. That is a HUGE honor to me. I would rather that than it sitting collecting dust in my portfolio.
