Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers of Hyperborea Art

Heya gang, long time no see. Why? Well, mostly because I've been busy as all get out and haven't had much time for social media other than Facebook. The day job and family are big responsibilities. However, I've also been crazy busy doing artwork for the Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers of Hyperborea. The Kickstarter for the second edition hardcover just wrapped up. It funded at over 400%! There is a lot of gorgeous art in this book, of which mine is just a part. I feel as if I've grown artistically with this project. It has been a long time in the making and I still have another eight or ten pieces to do for the book, however, it has been a rewarding experience. I would like to say thanks to Jeff Talanian for giving me a top slot on the art chores. Also thanks to the rest of the team. It is a fantastic lineup (literally) with the likes of Rus Nicholson (of Fiend Folio fame), Val Semakis (a kick ass comic book artist who did some stuff for Conan), Peter Mullen, Del T

New Game Commissioned art

Wow, sorry that I've been a way for a while.  I've been doing a lot of traveling for the day job and it has kept me away from my posting.  At any rate, I'm excited about some new work that I did for North Wind Publishing's Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers of Hyperborea .  Yes, it is another game system based off the old school rule sets.  Yes, it is weird fantasy.  I know there seems to be a lot of that.  However, AS&SoH is a very interesting setting, combining some Lovecraftian weirdness, some sci-fi, and some weird fantasy in one setting.  And it's written by Jeff Talanian who you might know as the writer for Troll Lord's Castle Zagyg material plus items for Fight On! and Knockspell.  Not to mention Ian Baggley who does some fantastic and moody art that gives the whole a really Lovecraftian vibe more than an Old School D&D feel.  So, I cannot recommend checking out their stuff more highly.  I think iot'd be a lot of fun to combine Lamentations o

Delve! Zine Update and other things...

March Madness has struck in Team Bingham land.   Lots of things going on at work, in the day to day happenings, and with my RPG life.   I’ve been busy working on various art commissions for folks.   I’m excited to get a chance to do some work for North Wind Studious on a module for Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers of Hyperborea.   Jeff Talanian has put together a very interesting setting that has a dark, pulpy horror feel to it.   I think it fills a nice middle ground between what James Raggi is doing with Lamentations of the Flame Princess and Trey Causey is doing with Weird Adventures.   I know there are quite a bit of “weird fantasy” systems and settings popping up, but that is a good thing in my book, especially since they are all covering the spectrum of weird fantasy. I have been working slowly on Delve! Zine.   It is most definitely a project on my to do list.   I just ported it from MS Word over to Publisher to get it into the right format for printing.   I just ordered s

Darkly Fantastic Fantasy

Lots of great gaming stuff coming out for us old schoolers and it looks like more goodness is on the horizon. I just purchased my copies of Lamentations of the Flame Princess Carcosa and Isle of the Unknown today ( see here for details ). I have been follow the progress of both and am excited to see the fully realized products. I have the original unexpurgated version of Carcosa and enjoyed it. Yes, there are some rather dark descriptions in there, but I felt that it really hit the nail on the head as far as trying to capture the horrific nature of sorcery as described by the likes of H.P Lovecraft, R.E. Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, and well, you know the stable. Sorcery in those worlds is ugly, evil, and highly ritualized - not the fire and forget spell slinging that seems to be the norm in modern fantasy. At any rate, I'm excited to see James Raggi really giving this a delux treatment. Another project that is along similar lines as far as dark/weird fantasy is the Astonish

A Brief Note on Charnel Crypt of the Sightless Serpent and other musings

I have not been as constructive with my blog posts lately as I’d like to be. It has quite a bit to do with all of the projects that I’m working on. That is not a bad thing, it just limits the amount of time I have to post more than just a few passing notes. In that vein, I just wanted to say that I recently received my copy of Charnel Crypt of the Sightless Serpent today by Jeffrey P. Talanian and North Wind Adventures. I eagerly flipped through and so far, I’ve been highly impressed. For a small press endeavor, the production values are very good. I particularly enjoyed the artwork by Ian Baggley. I think the cover depicting the sightless serpent is suitably creepy and conveys the feel of the module. While I’m only a few pages in, the descriptions are flavorful and extremely well done. This weekend, I’ll make a more thorough read through and give a complete review. I really appreciated Jeff’s handwritten note of thanks. I’m really excited about Astonishing Swordsmen and Sor
